Vision DeskTop(tm)
Featuring technology developed by NetLabs Inc.
* Provides monitoring and control for critical parts of the desktop.
* Examines all applications currently running on the workstation.
* Provides an intuitive, graphical user-friendlnterface that
requires minimal training.
* Enables users to manage a wide variety of hardware and software
desktop components that run a Host Resources agent.
SynOptics' new Vision DeskTop delivers the industry's first
standards-based integrated application for efficient management of the
desktop environment.
Seamlessly integrated with Optivity(tm) on SunNet Manager, IBM
NetView/6000, and HP OpenView/Unix management platforms, Vision DeskTop's
graphical user interface provides up- to-date status aconfiguration
information for different desktop components enabling users to evaluate the
environment at a glance. Users can use Vision DeskTop to manage any desktop
device that is running a Host Resources agent. Vision DeskTop is among the
first applications to utilize the IETF Host Resources MIB and the Desktop
Management Task Force (DMTF) DMI architecture.
"Point-and-Click" DeskTop Management
Vision DeskTop provides a graphical user interface that logically
depicts a desktop device as consisting of its physical and logical components
(e.g., the central processing unit (CPU), the file system, the system memory,
the printer and other peripheral devices and the installed software). This
intuitive interface hides the differences between vendors or operating
systems enabling users to manage a wide range of different desktop devices in
a uniform manner. For example, you can determine precisely what software is
currently installed and running on a desktop simply by clicking on the
software icon in the main window of Vision DeskTop.
Detailed Hardware and Software Configuration Information
Vision DeskTop provides consistent, detailed information regarding
hardware and software configuration for problem solving, inventory or
planning activities. This eliminates the need to travel to the computer's
physical location or access the information through a cryptic proprietary
interface. Some of the important desktop information that you can monitor
and configure with Vision DeskTop includes: process information, user session
information, printer information (low paper, low toner, jammed, etc.), the
amount of memory installed and in use, the amount of disk space installed and
in use, current load on the processor, serial number for inventory tracking,
software currently running on the device, software currently installed on the
device, file system data, attached peripherals (audio, video, compact disk,
tape drive, modem) and disk partitions.
Standards Based
Vision DeskTop utilizes key standards such as the IETF Host
Resources MIB, the Open Software Foundation (OSF) Motif, and the Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP). This enables Vision DeskTop to manage
any desktop that complies with the Host Resource MIB standard and integrate
smoothly with existing and future standards-based solutions.
Integration with Optivity
Vision DeskTop is integrated with Optivity's Nodal Views, which
provides a dynamic, real- time display of end stations connected to a network
segment. Users can launch Vision DeskTop from Nodal Views' station icons to
obtain end station performance and configuration data.
Management Platform Independent
Vision DeskTop is integrated with the following industry-leading
management platforms: SunNet Manager, HP OpenView/Unix, and IBM NetView/6000.
